ARTIST BIO
Cory Morrison (b. 1995) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator from California’s Central Valley whose art is influenced by natural processes and the Earth-human relationship. He developed a passion for art and natural history from a young age and fostered these passions in high school taking art, graphic design, and environmental science classes.
In 2014, unsure where his passions would lead, he began studying at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California. There, he developed an appreciation for education, taking courses such as anthropology and botany alongside drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. From Delta College, he earned associate degrees in Art, Teacher Preparation, Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts & Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Studies: Mathematics & Science.
In 2018 he began undergraduate studies at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock where he was challenged to develop his artistic style. Advancing his education in studio practices and art history, Cory became influenced by artists of the Minimalist, Land Art, Process Art, and Conceptual Art movements. His continued studies in anthropology, including courses in archaeology, early humans, and prehistoric cultures, also began to deeply influence his work.
Cory received his Bachelor of Arts (studio concentration) in 2020 and his single-subject credential in 2024. He continues to create artwork by exploring his local natural environment, connecting natural processes with humankind, and experimenting with various media, techniques, and organic materials. He is currently a high school art teacher, a member of the Grand Theatre’s artist co-op in Tracy, CA, and a YouTube content creator where he documents his artistic process. When he is not making art, he can be found exploring California’s natural landscapes, enjoying a museum, or visiting a local art gallery.
