Carbon Footprints (Eighty-Eight Pounds), 14in x 17in

An abstract visualization of greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual. Natural charcoal was made from a fallen tree. Charcoal was ground into a powder and then used to transfer footprints onto paper. Two large pieces each hold four hundred and sixteen steps referring to the amount of carbon emitted by the artist since birth. A series of six depicts eighty-eight footsteps referring to the amount of carbon emitted by the average person per day. The average carbon footprint in the U.S. is sixteen tons per year.
